Snow Geese

Snow geese fly on moonlit wings,
Their haunting voices calling,
And echo off the darkened sky
While gentle snow is falling

Their calls stir feelings deep inside,
To lofty heights I’m thrust,
And yearn for freedom on the wings
Of wind and wanderlust

They take with them my thoughts and dreams
To wander far away,
And as I watch them disappear
Here on the ground I stay

Waiting for their staunch return
On another moonlit night,
When once more they will call to me
To join their graceful flight.

Wild Geese On The Wing

I’m so much at home in the high mountain peaks,
Where the warblers and chickadees sing,
With a clear dancing stream and tall aspen trees,
And wild geese on the wing.

I’m drawn to the rivers that sparkle and shine,
Where herons catch fish with a fling,
A colorful sunset to light up the sky,
And wild geese on the wing.

I long for the prairie and buffalo grass,
And the feeling of freedom they bring,
The sweet smell of sagebrush that blows on the breeze,
And wild geese on the wing.

I fancy the woodlands where cottonwoods grow,
With the mosses and lichens that cling,
A cool breeze that whispers of soft summer nights,
And wild geese on the wing.

Through mountains and rivers and woodlands they fly,
So much of a beautiful thing,
Graceful and elegant, onward they course,
Wild geese on the wing.
